This includes checking the palate, tongue, gums, and other tissues of the mouth and throat for lesions, lumps, abnormal cells, and other signs of cancer.

The dentist will conduct a visual survey of your mouth and may also feel the tissues with a gloved hand. More in-depth tests include rinsing your mouth with a blue dye and using a special light to identify abnormal tissue. The dentist can also advise you if any follow-up is required.
