Like many cancers, oral cancer can be treated quite successfully if it’s caught early. The team at Eltek Dental has the specialized tools and training to screen for oral cancer. This includes checking the palate, tongue, gums, and other tissues of the mouth and throat for lesions, lumps, abnormal cells, and other signs of cancer.
Oral cancer screenings can be conducted during your regular checkup or in a separate appointment. They are especially important if you have risk factors such as tobacco use, heavy alcohol use, sun exposure, or a history of cancer. The dentist will conduct a visual survey of your mouth and may also feel the tissues with a gloved hand. More in-depth tests include rinsing your mouth with a blue dye and using a special light to identify abnormal tissue. The dentist can also advise you if any follow-up is required.
My husband got terrible headaches for months and the doctor could not figure out why. It got to
the point where he just figured he’d have to live with the pain. Then Dr. Sogomonian suggested it
could be from grinding his teeth at night. She fit my husband with a nightguard and the headaches
went away in a matter of days -- we could not believe the difference. ¡Thank you Dr. S!"
